Celebrating Success

At Bryant Schools, our mission is Creating Opportunities for Success. With school out for summer, we wanted to share some of the highlights of the 2022-2023 year.

2021-22 Bryant Teacher of the Year, Amber Leaton, was one of the four finalists for 2023 Arkansas Teacher of the Year.

Bryant High School’s eSports team Rocket League led the nation in most all-time wins. The Leagues of Legends team posted 25th in the nation for number of wins.

Springhill Elementary was recognized as a 2022 National Blue Ribbon School, the first in Bryant Schools and in Saline County. National Blue Ribbon Schools serve as models of effective school practices for educators and other schools throughout the nation. These schools are widely regarded as a symbol of exemplary teaching and learning. 

The district’s first GoGold campaign provided a total of $2,126.91 for Arkansas Children’s Hospital Hematology/Oncology Child Life Department to support children with cancer and their families. 

Archie, a golden retriever, became the first therapy dog at Bryant Schools.

Six Bryant Schools were recognized for student performance and academic growth based on ESSA scores:
  • Top 5% in Arkansas: Springhill Elementary (Performance); Collegeville & Salem Elementary (Growth)
  • Top 6-10%:Bryant Elementary (Performance); Hurricane Creek Elementary (Growth); Salem Elementary (Growth) and Bethel Middle (Performance)

Salem Elementary School and Collegeville Elementary School were recognized by the Office for Education Policy (OEP) at the University of Arkansas as schools where students demonstrated high growth on the ACT Aspire.

Tanner Oglesby, BHS Director of Choirs, was chosen by his peers to receive the Arkansas Choral Directors Association (ArkCDA) Region 3 Choral Director of the Year award. 

Senior Sabian Murry won the 2022 Congressional App Challenge sponsored by Congressman French Hill.

In December 2023, the Hornet Football successfully defended its title, bringing home an unprecedented five time win for the 7A State Championship.

The Bryant HiveFive League of Legends eSports team finished the season State Runner-Up.

Three Bryant team members were named ArSCA Southwest Regional Counselors of the Year:
  • Elementary - Tara Efird - Springhill Elementary School
  • Middle/Junior High School - Alyssa Wildschuetz - Bryant Junior High School
  • Secondary - Jenny Watkins - Bryant High School

Nine Bryant Schools competed in the 2023 ANASP State Archery Tournament: CES, DES, HFES, HCES, SES, SPES, BeMS, BMS & BHS.

The Hornet Football coaching team was named 2022 7A Arkansas Football Coaches Association Outstanding Football Staff of the Year.

Bryant Junior High Quiz Bowl won the Arkansas Governor’s Quiz Bowl Association 7A regional tournament. 

Seniors Deeya Rohant and Garrett Fuhrman were named 2023 National Merit FINALISTS.

The 9th Grade Boys Basketball team completed the season as CAJHC Conference and CAJHC Tournament Champions.

Sixteen Bryant High School musicians were named to the All-State Band.

Ten members of Bryant Choir made All-State Choir. 

Congratulations to Bryant’s Gifted and Talented team who received the Act 56 Honorable Mention Award for Outstanding Gifted Programs 2022-2023.

Senior Presley Givens earned her second 6A State Wrestling Championship and National Runner-Up at the USA Wrestling National Championships.

Bryant’s Alternative Education program was honored at the State Capitol on March 30 and recognized for having Top Composite Scores for ELA, Math & Science. The award speaks to the hard work and dedication of our staff and students who make Bryant’s ALE program great!

Kass Seidenschnur was named 2022-23 Bryant Teacher of the Year. Mrs. Seidenschnur is the Library Media Specialist at Hurricane Creek Elementary.

Special Education Liaison Angie Keen was awarded the distinction of overall Classified Employee of the Year for 2022-23. 

Congratulations to the Bryant Winter Guard on a fantastic ending to the season at the AMAA State Championship:
• Bryant Indoor Percussion & Legacy Winterguard: State Champions and Gold Medalists
• Bryant Blue Winterguard & Bryant White Winterguard: Silver Medalists

Davis Elementary was selected to participate in the Systems of Support project by the Office of Special Projects and the Arkansas Department of Education. DES will receive support to implement and sustain Professional Learning Community practices. 

Bryant High School instructor Brenda Qualls was named one of five finalists for the Arkansas Computer Science Educator of the Year. 

The 9th grade BryantHornetXC/Track boys team won the Central Arkansas Junior High Championship for the fourth year in a row.

Devyn Steingisser earned his second 6A State Championship in Discus.

Two members of BHS FCCLA will be attending Nationals in Denver, CO this summer. Lochlan Walsh placed Gold at the State level in Career Investigation Level 3. Andrew Schroeder will also be attending Nationals to represent Bryant High School and Arkansas as a State FCCLA officer of Parliamentary Law.

Bryant Junior High Media won 69 awards at Arkansas Scholastic Press Association (ASPA). 

BJHS Kaylee Anderson was named a finalist for JEA's Aspiring Young Journalist Award, one of only four individuals in the nation to place and only the second from Arkansas to earn this recognition.   

Bryant High School Journalism and Broadcast brought home more than 32 awards and top honors at ASAP.

BHS Broadcast adviser Michael Westbrook earned the distinction of ASPA Adviser of the Year. 

In only the second year of the TV Production program, BHS Hornet Media students earned four Regional Student Emmys from The National Academy of Television Mid-America Chapter.

The National Federation of Press Women awarded Hornet Media first place in the NATION for Best Newscast. Executive Producers are Carsyn Hobson and Nevaeh Robinson. 

Bryant Elementary was named a Capturing Kids Hearts National Showcase School for the first time. We are now celebrating *SEVEN* Capturing Kids’ Hearts National Showcase Schools for the 2022-2023 school year. 

Congratulations to the Lady Hornets, the 2023 6A State Softball Champions!

Parkway Elementary was the first Bryant School to be designated as a Heart Safe School through Project Adam & Arkansas Children's Hospital.

Bryant Elementary’s Club UNIFY created inclusion and helped build unique friendships.

After qualifying at state, the BHS, BeMS, BJHS robotics teams competed against peers from across the world at the VEX World Championship.

Jacqueline Vergason, principal at Hurricane Creek Elementary, was named the Arkansas Association of Instructional Media (AAIM) Administrator of the Year.

Parkway Elementary School was officially named a RISE School Award Recipient for 2023.

At state, the BHS Honeybees and Bella Voice earned Best in Class 7A. Camerata joined the choirs in earning the Sweepstakes Awards Distinguished Academic Achievement .

The Class of 2023 celebrated 653 graduates at War Memorial Stadium. They were awarded nearly $22 million in potential scholarships to continue their education.

In May, the district had 98 Bryant High School students earn Certificates of Proficiency in their field of study through Saline County Career and Technical Campus/ASU Three Rivers. 

Superintendent Karen Walters said the district’s educators went above and beyond this year to help ensure student success. “Our District is grateful for all of our students, staff, families, and community partners and we wish everyone a wonderful summer.”
