Bryant High School Quiz Bowl Team Earns State Runner-Up Title in 7A Championship
The Bryant High School Quiz Bowl team showcased academic excellence and competitive spirit at the Arkansas Governor’s Quiz Bowl Association (AGQBA) 7A Regional and State competitions this spring.
In March, the team competed in the AGQBA 7A Regional Competition, securing a strong 2nd place finish and earning a spot in the prestigious 7A State Competition. Held on April 12 at Central High School, the state tournament saw Bryant go undefeated throughout the day, averaging an impressive 405 points per game. Their dominant performance propelled them into the 7A State Championship game, which was televised on Arkansas PBS on April 26.
Only two teams from each classification—1A through 7A—advanced to the televised championship round. Bryant High School was one of just 14 schools statewide to reach this level of competition. In the final match, Bryant faced off against the Arkansas School for Mathematics, Sciences and the Arts (ASMSA), ultimately earning the 7A State Runner-Up title. For their outstanding performance, AGQBA awarded the team a $1,500 prize.
Quiz Bowl is a dynamic academic competition where students answer questions across a wide range of disciplines, including literature, math, science, history, art, music, and economics. It’s a celebration of scholarship that brings together some of the most intellectually curious and capable students in the state.
The Bryant team included Olivia Bauer, Charlie Denton, Dylan Drennan, Benjamin Garcia (team captain), Samuel Garcia, Matthew Hanks, Audrey Johnson, Jackson Koon, Adrian Matthews, Carson Maurer, Christian Nash, Jessika Shelton, Kindall Twiss, Evan Davis, and Ottis Harris. The team was led by Coach Amanda McMahan, AP Language and English instructor at Bryant High School.
