HCES Students Win MLK Essay Contest

The Ralph Bunche Community Development Corporation, Everett Buick GMC, and the Saline Courier sponsor the annual Martin Luther King Jr. Student Essay Contest. In the past, the contest was for Benton area students, but this year Hurricane Creek Elementary teacher Jennifer Rankin asked if 4th graders at her school could participate. She learned about the contest while volunteering with her Green Team students at the MLK Jr. Day clean up event at the Ralph Bunch Community Center in Benton. The contest organizers graciously allowed the HCES 4th graders to take part, along with students in the Benton School District, grades K-12.

On March 17, Linda Smith and Evelyn Reed from the MLK committee, joined by Susie Everett with Everett Buick GMC, presented awards for the 4th grade contest winners. Congratulations to the following students:

Raeleigh DeVito: First Place (4th Grade, Mrs. Rankin’s Class)
Lexi Bent: 2nd Place (4th Grade, Mrs. Rankin’s Class)
Blakeley Benetz: 3rd Place (4th Grade, Mrs. Rankin’s Class)
