District Awards 2009-2010

- District scores on the Arkansas Benchmark surpassed state averages in every category.

- Bryant Average ACT scores rose to 21.4 in 2009, which surpassed state and national averages.

- Bryant was one of 17 districts in Arkansas to receive an “A” Grade by the Arkansas Policy Foundation.

- The District ranked 8th overall in the state by the Arkansas Policy Foundation.

- As a class, 2009 Seniors earned over $4 million in college scholarships.

- BHS students completed approximately 3,220 total concurrent credit hours through a partnership with UALR - the equivalent of $653,660 in tuition and fees.

- 3 Bryant High School students were named National Merit Scholar Semi-finalists for their superb performance on the PSAT.

- Will Chandler, Nick Bell, and one other who did not give permission for the district to use his name.

- Bryant was ranked as a Top 100 Best Small Town in America - CNN.com

- Arkansas School Band and Orchestra Association granted “Superior” ratings to the Hornet Band for the 20th year in a row.

- Salem Elementary received an Annual Improvement Gains Award of $15,200 by receiving a gains score of “4”, meaning a “school exceeding improvement standard”.

- Collegeville Elementary School received the 2009 Best of Bryant Award in the Schools Category by the U.S. Commerce Association.

- 119 middle school students qualified as Duke University Scholars for exceptional performance on standardized tests.

- 16 students earned AP Scholar awards in recognition for their exceptional achievement on the Advanced Placement Exams in May of 2009 (a score of at least 3 on 3 or more exams). 3 of those received awards with Honors Distinction for an average score of at least 3.25 on three or more AP exams.

- 3 district schools, Bryant Elementary, Middle, and High schools, were voted Best of the Best by citizens in Central Arkansas Democrat Gazette survey. Bryant was the only district with schools in all three categories.

- 6 Bryant schools earned a total of 14 Outstanding Educational Performance (OEP) Awards from the Office of Education Policy at the University of Arkansas, including:

- Salem: Ranked one of the Top 20 Elementary Schools in Arkansas (18th). Also, SES was ranked 14th in the state for Benchmark Literacy Achievement, and Salem’s 08-09 5th grade students were ranked 3rd in Central Arkansas region for their success on the Benchmark Math Exam.
- Collegeville: CES 3rd graders of 08-09 were ranked 3rd in the Central Arkansas region for their scores on 2009 Benchmark Literacy Exam.
- Paron: PES 3rd graders were ranked 2nd in Central Ark. for their scores on the Benchmark Math Exam, while PES 5th graders were ranked 2nd in Central Ark. for their scores on the Literacy Exam.
- Bryant Middle: 100% of students that elected to take the End-of-Course Algebra exam at Bethel and Bryant Middle Schools scored Proficient or Advanced on the test.
- Bethel Middle: Also, BeMS 8th graders of 2008-09 were ranked 1st in the Central Arkansas region based on their superb performance on the 2009 Benchmark Math Exam
- Bryant High: ranked 10th in the state, and 2nd in Central Arkansas for student performance on the End-of-Course Geometry Exam. Also ranked 20th in the state, 2nd in Central Arkansas for student performance on the EOC Algebra Exam.


- Bethel Middle School received the 2009 Shannon Wright Award from the Arkansas Association of Middle Level Educators for their distinguished middle level education program.

- Bryant School Board Members Scott Hart and Joe Wishard received the Outstanding School Board Member Award for earning 25 or more hours of board development training.

- 3 Board Members, Rhonda Sanders, David Moore, and Joe Wishard, have attained Master Board Member status this year, which confirms that they have earned at least 50 hours of development training.

- Bryant students across the district raised food to fill over 90 full meal boxes during Thanksgiving food drives.

- 235 Bryant High School students registered to donate blood in a drive sponsored by FCCLA and the American Red Cross, which was the highest amount of volunteers the Red Cross had seen in a high school all year. Overall, volunteer were able to donate 102 full units, equivalent to 1,632 ounces, of blood to Arkansas Hospitals.

- Fifteen Bryant High School students and their teacher, Mrs. Vicki Westbrook, successfully completed testing to become Microsoft Certified Application Specialists in Office Word 2007.

- Apoorva Mittal, Maria Pinkerton, Emily Martin, and Jennifer Moulton, Matthew Goss, Gage Perciful, Whitney Sharp, Kyle Haynie, and Trevor Page, Brandon Hixon, Dylan Rogers, Brett McDonald, Curtis Gordon, and Aaron Moulton, Mallory Daniels.


- At the largest Journalism Education Association/National Scholastic Press Association convention in organization history with over 6,400 students in attendance in Washington DC, Bryant High School yearbook and newspaper staff members won 12 national awards. Students won 6 first places, 3 second places and 3 third places. 2,267 total students from all the 50 states, Germany, England and Singapore competed.

- Kendall Butzlaff – honorable mention in yearbook sports copy/caption writing.
- Emily Pilcher – honorable mention in yearbook clubs copy/caption writing.
- Sydney Hoffmans – superior in yearbook student life copy/caption writing.
- Grace Oxley – superior in yearbook theme design.
- Kayla Davidson – excellent in yearbook inside page design.
- Sarah Snyder – excellent in literary magazine illustration.
- Matt Traschke – superior in yearbook sports photography, only 3 superiors given.
- Parker Pamplin – superior in newspaper sports photography, only 3 superiors given.
- Wil Chandler – excellent in yearbook student life photography.
- Charlie Hunnicutt – honorable mention in newspaper news/feature photography.
- Whit Pruitt – superior in photo story, only 1 superior given.
- Gareth Patters – superior in photography portfolio, only 2 superiors given.


The six first places are the most for Bryant High School students to ever win and Bryant photographers placed in every photo contest.


Parker Pamplin is the first Bryant ninth grader to ever win an award and she won a first place.
Gareth Patterson in the first Bryant student to win a first place in national photography competition his 10th, 11th, and 12th grade years. He is a 3-peat.

- BHS English Teacher Tara Seale was featured in a national publication, NEA Today, for her integration of technology into the classroom. She was also one of 50 teachers from around the country to be accepted into the Google Teacher Academy.

- 2 High School students, Jessica McCarley and Jennifer Moulton, had their writings published in the Arkansas Dem-Gaz’s Sync Weekly Magazine.

- Davis Elementary teachers Donna Peters, Allyson Pettye, Rebecca Hartsfield, Charlene Williams, Laura Wysocki, Anna Yarberry, Cynthia Chambers, Gaile Amason, Helen Ballard and Jerrye McGinty were voted to receive $100 gift cards to Walmart by the the employees at our local Wal Mart for classroom supplies.

- Bryant High School Dance Team won the 2009 State Dance Competition.

- In the Play-it-Again Arkansas Showcase of Bands, The Legacy of Bryant Marching Band competed against 40 other bands in the event, including 23 Class 4 and 5A bands. They earned the following awards:

- First Division Color Guard Class 5A
- First Division Percussion Class 5A
- First Division Drum Major Class 5A
- First Division Band Class Class 5A
- Overall Outstanding Soloist (Callie Smith, flutist)
- Overall Outstanding Drum Major (Alex Ford)
