Bryant High School students had the profound privilege of hearing from Holocaust survivor, Dr. Andras Lacko.

Born in Budapest, Hungary in 1936, Dr. Lacko’s story is one of resilience, survival, and hope. In 1944, a serious illness kept him from being sent to the ghetto and ultimately spared him from deportation. He survived the Holocaust in a military hospital and was later reunited with his parents following the Soviet liberation of Budapest. Dr. Lacko went on to earn his Ph.D. in Biochemistry. His life’s work as a cancer researcher reflects the same perseverance that carried him through unimaginable circumstances.

Thank you to Ricky Manes, a longtime leader in Holocaust education in Arkansas, for creating meaningful, real-world learning experiences that leave a lasting impact on our students. Through stories like Dr. Lacko’s, our students are reminded of the importance of courage, compassion, and never forgetting the lessons of history.
