Hello again from Mrs. Edwards, your principal at CES. We are excited about getting to include some fun activities this week as we educate students about making healthy choices for our body during Red Ribbon Week. With our Pandemic protocols in place, we are looking forward to getting to bring back some of the fun things our students enjoy! Our dress up days this week are posted on Facebook and sent home last week. Monday-Don’t get Mixed Up with Drugs (Wear mismatched clothing) Tuesday-Don’t let Drugs Put you to Sleep (Pajama day) Wednesday-Put a Lid on Drugs (Wear a hat) Thursday-Hornets Don’t Do Drugs (Wear Hornet Blue) Friday is our Book Character Parade. Students may dress as their favorite book character and bring their book to share with their class. No scary costumes will be permitted. We are so excited to promote a love for literature by identifying with a book character. We are ready to move forward into the second nine weeks by going strong!

Did you know it's #NationalSafeSchoolsWeek? Bryant Schools is thankful to have Bryant Police School Resource Officers (SROs) at our secondary campuses and Commissioned School Security Officers (CSSOs) at our elementary campuses. Both groups of professionals work closely with our administrators in creating safe schools. Bryant Schools is providing an opportunity for parents to change their student's instructional option (blended or virtual) beginning second semester (January 2021). In order to effectively plan schedules for student classes, we are asking parents to submit a form for EACH student (K-12) even if you plan to continue your current learning environment. PreK parents should not complete this form since PreK is only offered onsite. We will use your selection to place your elementary student in an onsite/virtual classroom or develop your secondary student's schedule for the second semester (January 2021) of the school year. Information on both blended and virtual learning is available on our website: bit.ly/2StNz1c. If you have questions, please email your building principal. THE FORM WILL CLOSE ON SUNDAY, OCTOBER 25, 2020 at 11:59pm. Instructional Option for Second Semester: bit.ly/3lQ6iR1 Instructional Option for Second Semester (en español): bit.ly/2SZW04G

October is Dyslexia Awareness Month. #LearntheFacts Dyslexia has nothing to do with vision OR intelligence. It is a language-processing disorder and is characterized by difficulties with accurate and/or fluent word recognition and poor spelling and decoding abilities. It can affect reading, writing, spelling, and speaking. For more information on Bryant’s Dyslexia intervention services, visit bryantschools.org/page/dyslexia.

We are also excited to tell you that we WILL be having our annual Book Character Parade on Friday, October 30th. Information has also been posted on Facebook and sent home. If the weather permits, we have a plan to parade outside so we can socially distance. If not, we will be parading virtually. Our kids love this educational opportunity and we look forward to promoting a love for reading! Rules: Costumes MUST be a book character No scary costumes Students will “be” their book character all day, so carefully choose something “wearable” all day. Costumes should be homemade. If possible, use items found around the house. You do NOT have to buy or make an elaborate costume. Students MUST have a book to carry during the parade that includes their character. In accordance with Arkansas State Law, public schools are only allowed two school “parties” per year. Our district has established those parties for Christmas and Valentine’s Day only. Therefore, CES will NOT be having Halloween Parties. However, teachers may contact you about how they will provide snacks for our “Fall Treat Day” on Oct. 3o. Be planning ahead for Early Dismissal on Thursday, October 22 and elementary Parent Teacher Conferences from 2:00-7:30 that day. School will dismiss at 1:50, and students must be picked up by 2:20. Conferences will be via Zoom or phone conference. Report cards will be sent home on Wednesday, Oct. 21 to prepare for your conference along with NWEA student reports. Teachers will be reaching out at the end of this week to begin scheduling your preferred Virtual Conference time. Friday, Oct. 23rd is a scheduled Remote Learning Day. Students will not attend school on that day but will have assignments to complete remotely. Teachers will send out an available Zoom time that afternoon to answer questions or provide assistance with assignments. Teachers will be attending required professional development for the remaining portion of that day. October 23rd is also picture day for VIRTUAL students at the Bryant High School Auditorium. As we begin another week, I can’t emphasize enough how much your support means to us. I am so proud for how you’ve helped us to do “all the things” to keep our students safe. We continue to emphasize wearing masks, staying socially distanced, and washing our hands. I am thankful for every day we get to remain onsite. Both our virtual teachers and our blended teachers are working hard to ensure your child gets the very best education possible. With so much “extra” added to their plates, we are especially grateful for the support and encouragement you are providing. We simply couldn’t do it without you and hope you know how much we love your babies and work to make sure CES is a safe and happy place to learn. Have a lovely week!

Child Health Day
Welcome to October! From your CES Principal, Mrs. Edwards….I am enjoying this gorgeous day on my back porch as I send this message. It looks like it is going to be a lovely week ahead! Our announcements are short and sweet this week. You’ll want to be watching for Picture Day flyers! Onsite pictures will be Monday, October 12th. Virtual Pictures will be Friday, October 23rd at the Bryant High School Auditorium. You can order online using the codes sent home with your child's flyer. You will want to start planning for parent teacher conferences on October 22 from 2-7:30 pm. School will dismiss early that day and all conferences will be via Zoom or phone conference. Friday, October 23 will be a remote learning day for all students. Students will be provided their assignment and will complete them remotely. No students will attend classes that day. I want to thank Melissa Ruby, Cassie Franklin, and Nikki Smith for donations to make our front entrance festive and inviting! I appreciate these ladies so much for helping me make a welcoming display. We are looking forward to the day when we can once again welcome our parents and guests inside our school. I also want to thank our Flu Clinic Volunteers/Nursing Staff who helped make our flu clinic a success. I appreciate Nurse Tamara for all the work she did on the front end to make our clinic run smoothly! Last, a message to our 3-5 Virtual Parents: Don’t forget NWEA testing this week! Per the letter sent out last week, Virtual Grade 3 will test on Tuesday, Virtual Grade 4 on Wednesday, and Virtual Grade 5 on Thursday. Testing will be in our gym but you will not come into the front entrance. You will enter campus from Hwy. 5 onto the bus loop (where it says “do not enter” LOL) and drive past the building to the back parking lot. There will be a tent sent up outside the gym where you will sign in your child for testing. Registration is from 8:05-8:20. No one will be available before 8:00 am as we all have morning duty, so there is no need to come earlier than 8:00. Thank you for making sure we get these diagnostic tests completed for your Virtual Students. Thanks for another week of support and encouragement as we work hard to educate your children. They mean the world to us and we take our role very seriously. Enjoy your week!
